Golden Jubilee Programmes

We are very proud to announce that NAB Kerala Branch completes 50 glorious years of service for the persons with disabilities in the State of Kerala. We remember with gratitude the support given to us by the Government, Non Government agencies and the Public, for extending our services to the unreached population over these fifty years.
We started our journey in 1962 with minimal services in the area of prevention of blindness and over these years we could extend our support to more than a lakh persons with disabilities. Today we toil for the rights of the persons with disabilities, help them to advocate for their needs, sensitise the Government and other agencies to contribute more, for the development of the persons with disabilities. Our activities throughout Kerala till date are as follows :

  • Organized 1340 Medical Camps to Prevent Disability and provided treatment to 1, 95,648 persons
  • Conducted 52,263 Cataract Operations under our Sight Restoration Programme
  • Distributed 71,029 Spectacles to persons identified from our various programmes
  • Supported over 3000 Children with Disabilities in completing education at General Schools under our Integrated Education Programme.
  • Distributed Special Educational Aids, Scholarships etc. to 6987 Children with Special Needs.
  • Rehabilitated 8372 Persons with Disabilities under our Community Based Rehabilitation Programme
  • Provided support services like Government Social Security allowances, Travel Concessions etc to 11,050 Persons with Disabilities
  • 1284 Persons with Multiple Disabilities are supported under our Home Based Rehabilitation Programme.
  • Sensitization , Awareness and Training Programmes were organized for Government and Non Government Organizations around Kerala State.
  • Formed Self Help Group of Persons with Disabilities around Kerala to advocate for their Rights and Privileges

During the Golden Jubilee Year 2012, we wish to implement services worth rupees ONE CRORE for the development of persons with disabilities and our plan is given as follows :

1 Golden Jubilee Building – Ground Floor 30,00,000
2 Adopt and rehabilitate 50 families of Persons with Disability (PWD), 05 families from each Revenue District with the partnership with other NGOs. 10,00,000
3 Project for the Children with Multiple Disabilities and New Theraphy Centre – First Floor 18,00,000
4 Golden Jubilee Arch and Ramp Construction in the premises of NAB Kerala Office at Trivandrum. 4,00,000
5 A low vision centre with most modern equipment – Second Floor 10,00,000
6 Distribution of Aids and Appliances 7,00,000
7 Free cornea transplantation surgery (For 100 Persons) 5,00,000
8 Distribution of 500 Braille kits 5,00,000
9 05 Houses to be constructed for PWDs 5,00,000
10 1000 White Canes for Mobility 2,00,000
11 Free Insurance coverage to 1000 PWDs (Janasree Bhima Yogana of Govt of India & LIC) 1,00,000
12 Awareness Promotion Materials on Prevention, Care, Eye Donation, etc. 1,00,000
13 Training to Local Body Officials on the utilization of schemes related to PWDs. 1,00,000
14 Sensitisation on Persons with Disabilities Act, National Trust Act & Rehabilitation Council of India Act to Govt & Non Govt agencies 1,00,000
